Today

To Improve Your Salon Experience

Written by Amber Cooper

Do you ever feel like you get lost in giving out discounts and add on services when you're promoting yourself? Don't be embarrassed! Many of us have been there.

Whether you are a salon owner with a team of professionals or you're an independent stylist, we are all feeling the pressures of entrepreneurship. Servicing beautiful hair just isn't enough anymore. We must be photographers, content creators, social media influencers, and accountants... and that is all before we even consider actually doing our craft! Not to mention competing with prices of large companies and cooperations. It's easy to focus on passing out deals like they're TicTacs! Well, instead of discounting your work, there is a way to keep clients coming and raving about their visit.

The secret weapon is to shift your focus from discounts to the clients' experience! Clients will always come back when they have had an outstanding experience. I'm talking about the details about your space that makes them feel catered to and that you have their needs/interests in mind.

Before I dive into the 8 Things You Can Do Today to Improve Your Salon Experience,I want to share an alarming statistic found on Ninetailed.io. They said one-third of customers (32%) say they will walk away from a brand they love after only one unpleasant encounter, while 92% would completely abandon a company after two or three negative interactions. (PWC).

Crazy right?! As soon as you're done reading, you need to go prepare for greatness!

You deserve to charge regular prices, with elated clients, and a reputation that others admire....and there's no time to waste!!

Tip #1 - Keep a portable Massager on standby

Who doesn't need a back massage? Keeping a portable back massager ready as an optional amenity is a GREAT way to upgrade your salon experience! Especially if your client's appointment is scheduled for a particularly long time.

Tip #2 - Offer a Complimentary Beverage

Offering a refreshment is a commonly utilized treat. Being greeted at the door with a "Hello Kara, can I offer you a complimentary drink while you wait?" is a much more luxurious approach than just walking in and waiting what feels like an eternity. According to SalonGeek.com many professionals commented about the high priority of offering every customer something to drink, and some of the most common options were water, coffee, tea, soda, champagne, etc.

Tip #3 - Keep the Snacks on Deck!

I always say, where there is good food there is a good time! I know snacks are hardly considered "food", but when you consider the amount it costs you to swing by Costco a couple times a year versus the loyalty and comfort your clients will have in your chair, it's a no brainer! A few peanut allergy friendly snacks could be Cheetos, Skinny Pop Popcorn, Goldfish, Wheat Thins etc. Also, A few gluten free snacks Mars candies, Lay's chips, Ruffles chips, Veggie Straws, etc.

Tip #4 - Offer a warm towel

Nothing makes me want to stick around a little longer than being cozy and feeling pretty! A warm towel can be used around their neck during a color service or at the shampoo bowl. Clients may also enjoy their tool on the back of their chair if they have any back pain. Feelin' crazy?? You could even turn this amenity into an add on service by incorporating essential oils and a hand massage while they process!

Tip #5 - Always Keep A Few Quick Reads Near By

We all know those guests that prefer silence. Inviting your clients to take a moment to pick a book or magazine while you mix their color formula is usually appreciated. Not to mention, it can totally take the edge off of any awkward silence. This is also a great opportunity to lock arms with any authors you may know and cross promote!

Tip #6 - Have a laptop stand

We live in a fast paced, multi-tasking, highly caffeinated society. Rolling up with a laptop stand helps your client stay on top of their grind at the same time of keeping their head in an upright position, perfect for the color application and processing! Not sure where to find one? No worries. Here is my Amazon affiliate link to grab yours right away!

Tip #7 -Have an accessible charging station

Not only is everyone fast paced, multi-tasking, and highly caffeinated, but they're also glued to multiple devices at once! What in inconvenience it is for something to lose battery life while they are in your chair. Do yourself and your clients a favor and over night ship this handy charging station right here on my Amazon affiliate link!

Tip #8 - Display Resources for Personal Growth

My final suggestion to improving your salon experience is to keep brochures, business cards, or flyers near by for personal resources such as financial advisor, counselor, tutors, chiropractor, etc. We all know our clients become more like family than just customers, help them out as well as cross promoting with local businesses. WIN! WIN!

Rather you already do some of these recommendations or none at all, these eight ideas will take your guest's experience to the next level! You really can start over delivering multiple conveniences for each appointment starting today. OK, go refresh your space and take advantage of these affiliate codes NOW!
